Biographical SketchAfter 10 successful years as a physical therapist, Lori Batcheller followed a personal yearning to find her Authentic Self and pursue her love of writing and the creative process by returning to school to obtain a master's degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Along her journey to right livelihood, she became a Certified Journal Instructor through the Center for Journal Therapy and discovered Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, where she resided for over a year practicing and studying yoga and exploring holistic health modalities. She now shares her many passions with others through her work as a freelance writer, journal-writing instructor, holistic physical therapist, and professional-level Kripalu Yoga teacher. Batcheller's articles and poems appear in national and trade magazines, newspapers, on-line publications, and poetry anthologies, including Fit Yoga Magazine, disaboom.com, Kripalu Center’s Web site, Delicious! Magazine, Accent on Living Magazine, Advance for Physical Therapy, Advance for Occupational Therapy, inMotion Magazine, New Mobility, Juneau Empire, Loveland Reporter-Herald, and Many Hands. Her passion to write poems, articles, and books that inform, educate, and inspire led her to write, Alpine Achievement: A Chronicle of the United States Disabled Ski Team (number one team in the world!), which includes the remarkable stories of Team members, a history of disabled skiing, and extensive resources. She is also the author of Journey to Health: Writing Your Way to Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Well-being, which offers over 14 different journal-writing techniques, guided meditations, and tools for enhancing your journal-writing experience. Batcheller holds a bachelor of arts in biology from Colby College and a master's in physical therapy from Hahnemann University. In her private practice, she blends yoga instruction, Reiki, Positional Release Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, and Therapeutic Massage with mind/body techniques to promote healing on all levels—body, mind, and spirit. She is a member of Kripalu Center’s Guest Yoga Team and regularly teaches workshops on journaling for health and well-being and intentional collage for their R&R program. Batcheller brings her personal experience with yoga and journaling as tools for healing on all levels to her dynamic workshops, which encourage each individual to discover optimal health and fan the light of their Authentic Self. “As I teach workshops, I am continually amazed at the power of writing and yoga, especially in a comfortable workshop setting where participants support one another's journey. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to pass these fun, transformational, and creative tools onto others.” --Lori Batcheller |
